About Megan Carbray

Megan is a Registered Counsellor with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association.  She is a trauma and bereavement specialist who incorporates work on a somatic level to integrate the healing done in traditional talk therapy, so that it has long-term healing impacts on the body, in addition to the mind.  Megan is also an experienced and passionate advocate well-versed in systemic issues and barriers impacting the mental health of Nova Scotians.

5 Questions with Megan…

  1. Why do you love being a counsellor?
I've always loved hearing people's stories and what uniquely makes them them.  I feel like my work is impactful and I leave work feeling like I've had a positive impact in my little corner of the world.

  2. What are you up to in your free time?
I'm a bit of a hobby collector.  I enjoy singing, dancing, writing, and reading, but also find the time to play and hike with my Australian Shepherd, Lady.

  3. What have you learned over the course of your career that has most shaped you?
    Two big lessons:

-the same systems that help some, destroy others

-that talk therapy alone is not enough to heal trauma; if it does not involve the nervous system and body sensations, the impacts of trauma will live on

  4. What is one piece of advice that you treasure?
Never accept criticism from someone you would never go to for advice

  5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
My first stop would be Greece - I've always loved Greek mythology and it looks like it is the most beautiful place in the world.
